Release - Summer Shakespeare 2020
Since the summer of 2013, Actors Theatre of
Missouri has performed free Shakespeare at the Springfield Art
Museum under the name Shakespeare at the Columns. We have given
you comedy and tragedy, from As You Like It to Titus
Andronicus. Unfortunately, just as the plague caused the
Master of the Revels to shut-down Shakespeare’s own performances
in Elizabethan times, we have been forced to forego presenting
your Summer Shakespeare offering this year.
Fear not, though, for
Springfield Shakespeare at the Columns will be back. We are not
going anywhere – we are just hibernating like a bear. Our
upcoming season in 2021 will bring you two free Shakespeare
productions – a comedy and a tragedy. The comedy The Taming
of the Shrew will be set in 1969 just prior to the Stonewall
Riots in New York. King Lear will feature two monarchs –
one male and one female – for two different takes on the
tragedy of family betrayal and the collapse of a dynasty.
In the new year,
Actors Theatre of Missouri will also be providing information
about our expanded season offerings of mainstage shows at the
Springfield Art Museum. So stay tuned to our Facebook page
www.facebook.com/springfieldshakes and our website
www.actorstheatreofmo.org. If you wish to be added to our
e-mail list, please send us your e-mail information at
info@actorstheatreofmo.org.
Stay safe and stay
tuned. We will come back to play shortly. For now, we exit
stage right, pursued by bear.
